Matilde was born in Uruguay and spent part of her childhood and adolescence in Mexico. Currently, she lives and produces in Montevideo. This month will be the premiere of ‘Campo Blanco’ (White Field), a performance and installation with the playwright Sergio Blanco, in a work that explores the limits of photography. In 2014 she was selected and exhibited for the installation ‘Siempre Presente’ (Always Present) at the 2nd Biennial of Montevideo curated by Alfons Hug. In 2012 she exhibited ‘Miradas Cercanas’ (Close Looks) at the MAPI and she has also exhibited on several occasions not only in Uruguay but also internationally.
Matilde has worked in journalism and photojournalism for the last 15 years. Besides, since 2008, she has been in charge of the photographs in Uruguay for the news agency The Associated Press. She’s a collaborator for The New York Times, the Rolling Stone Magazine in its Argentinian edition. among others. Her photographs are part of a great variety of editorial projects and she has contributed to graphic art for several CDs.
